The 8AC140.61-2 is a communication and control module built by B&R Automation for the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. Designed as an interface node inside distributed machine architectures, it links higher-level PLCs with servo drives, sensors, and I/O stations over the deterministic Ethernet-based Powerlink network. By integrating fieldbus, serial, and Ethernet channels in one compact card, it reduces cabinet space while allowing synchronized data exchange required for coordinated motion, process monitoring, and safety interlocks in industrial automation systems.
Its processing core is rated at a 100 MHz clock rate, giving the module deterministic cycle times for time-critical Powerlink frames. The embedded DRAM capacity of 16 MB holds the real-time operating system, buffering network variables without page swapping. A small but fast 32 kB SRAM block stores high-frequency I/O flags that must survive task-switching delays. Program execution is handled by the ARNC0 CPU, a reduced-instruction controller optimized for cyclic data exchange. The module has 1 on-board Ethernet port, which provides the physical Powerlink medium and also supports standard TCP/IP diagnostics when the network is in idle mode.
