B&R Automation manufactures the 8AC130.60-1 as part of the 8AC POWERLINK Modules series. The module attaches to a POWERLINK network and acts as a distributed I/O node, allowing controllers to read sensor states and drive actuators without long parallel wiring runs. Its role in an automation cell is to collect high-speed input events, forward them deterministically across the bus, and energize output channels that switch loads such as contactors, valves, or indicator lamps on the machine frame.
The electronics are designed for a nominal field supply of 24 VDC, while remaining operational down to 18 VDC and up to 30 VDC; this tolerance lets the module stay online during brownouts or boosted charging conditions. Eight input paths are available, so the system can monitor up to 8 separate discrete signals, and ten sourcing output transistors allow control of as many as 10 devices. Each input uses a sink circuit that references the signal to the internal ground plane, and voltages below 5 V are treated as a low-level state to reject noise. A high-level input is recognized only when the voltage rises sufficiently, which helps prevent false transitions when cables pick up coupled interference.
The last two outputs can deliver up to 2 A each for coils or lamps that need higher inrush current. Reliable recognition of fast edges is achieved because the module specifies a switching interval no shorter than 2.5 µs; pulses narrower than this are ignored to maintain counter accuracy. Logic stages identify a valid logical 1 only when the terminal exceeds 15 V. For motion feedback, the encoder section samples quadrature tracks with 4× evaluation, stores counts in a 16-bit register, and supports up to 250 kHz at the counter, 62.5 kHz at the differential input, and 100 kHz on the independent event counter. Even with this performance, total power draw remains limited to 0.8 W, so dense node installations do not overload the 24 V supply distribution.
