B&R Automation manufactures the 8AC126.60-1 as part of the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. The unit installs on a Power Panel or X20 controller rack to provide network communication and encoder support for distributed motion axes in industrial automation lines. By combining Powerlink bus processing with dedicated feedback channels, the module enables synchronized position control and diagnostic data exchange between servo drives and higher-level controllers. This arrangement lets the host control platform handle motion feedback and network traffic through one compact interface module.
Data traffic on the Powerlink side is transferred at a baud rate of 6.25 Mbit/s, and the physical layer is based on RS485 differential signaling to reduce electromagnetic noise over long machine cables. To integrate with the host backplane, a 9-pin female DSUB connector is provided for a direct electrical connection. Internal electronics draw a maximum of 4.4 W, so standard cabinet ventilation is usually adequate. The integrated encoder port supports the EnDat 2.2 protocol, and the module supplies a regulated 12 V output to power the attached position sensor, which can reduce the need for a separate local sensor supply.
The encoder channel can be wired up to 100 m from the cabinet, and continuous line supervision reports cable faults through status indicators. These UP/DN LEDs also show network traffic direction, while the BAT indicator is linked to the parameter memory's coin cell. The module includes backup battery support, which helps maintain axis parameters during power outages. For slot planning, the device may be inserted in slots 2, 3, or 4 of the controller rack, and an embedded parameter chip stores identification data. The circuitry is short-circuit-proof and overload-proof, and it includes encoder monitoring but no galvanic isolation on the feedback lines, so the reference potential should be grounded accordingly.
