The 8AC122.60-2/AC module is a two-pole resolver interface from B & R Automation that belongs to the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. Installed inside a Powerlink I/O rack, it converts analog resolver signals into digital data for the network controller so that motor position can be tracked in real time. The unit is tailored for the BRX resolver family and supports encoder monitoring, allowing the control system to detect open-circuit or short-circuit conditions during continuous industrial operation.
At the signal input, the module accepts a resolver carrier frequency of 10 kHz and presents an input impedance of 10.4 kΩ – j11.1 kΩ, which keeps sensor loading low while maintaining phase fidelity. Common-mode disturbances of up to ±20 V max. are tolerated without saturating the differential front end. Internally, the excitation transformer supplies a nominal voltage ratio of 0.5 ±5% to generate the correct sine-cosine reference. During normal operation, the electronics draw only 1.2 W max., aiding thermal management in dense panels. The resolver receives a drive signal of 3.4 Veff typ., and this carrier is delivered at a reference frequency of 10 kHz so that electrical timing aligns with the winding characteristics. These operating values support stable signal processing while keeping the resolver load within the intended range.
The signal path terminates on a 9-pin D-Sub socket, simplifying shielded cable routing in the cabinet. With no galvanic isolation between the resolver and logic, proper system grounding is required, yet this design remains acceptable for protective extra-low-voltage BRX sensors. Under correct wiring, electrical angular error is limited to ±10 arcmin and phase shift is held to ±3°. Computed position data achieve a precision of ±8 arcmin, enabling repeatable contouring moves. The excitation channel can supply up to 50 mAeff max., providing headroom for long cable runs while still observing the two-pole transformer design.
