Product Description:

The 8AC122.60-1 is a Powerlink feedback module manufactured by B&R Automation within the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. Installed in a control rack, it occupies the two dedicated communication backplane positions for resolver inputs and encoder supervision, thereby passing real-time shaft data to distributed drives. In machine tools, packaging lines, or any synchronized motion group, the module receives the resolver’s sine and cosine signals and forwards them on the deterministic Ethernet bus so that position loops remain closed inside the central controller.

The module excites the connected BRX resolver with a 10 kHz carrier and expects a return impedance of 10.4 kΩ – j 11.1 kΩ at that frequency. Within this bandwidth, the internal analog stage keeps the maximum phase error to ±10°, while mechanical position is resolved to ±8 angular minutes. Signal amplitude is referenced to a differential level of 3.4 Veff, which helps keep noise margins consistent across long shielded cables. The connected resolver can draw up to 50 mAeff from the excitation pins, and the differential transfer topology helps avoid ground loops between the field device and backplane. Resolver isolation is not provided, but encoder monitoring is active, and wiring is completed through a rugged 9-pin D-Sub socket on the front panel.

Total power consumption stays below 1.2 W, allowing passive convection in compact cabinets. For electromagnetic resilience, the front end provides 4 kV burst immunity on supply lines and 15 kV ESD immunity on exposed contacts. The board is intended for installation only in slots 2 and 3 so that the backplane reference taps align with internal timing buses. Resolver type BRX is supported directly, and the differential reference transfer helps keep angular accuracy stable under cabinet vibration or ambient electrical interference.
