Product Description:
B&R Automation’s 8AC114.60-2 module belongs to the 8AC Powerlink Modules series and serves as a two-port communication extension for automation controllers. Installed in a remote I/O rack, it forms an Ethernet-based POWERLINK branch that links drives, sensors, and other field devices to the deterministic network. By occupying a dedicated slot, the part enables synchronized data exchange between decentralized equipment and the machine controller, maintaining the real-time behavior required for motion sequences and process interlocks in industrial automation.
The module is inserted in Slot 1 of a CPU or base unit and communicates through a single POWERLINK interface operating at a 100 Mbit/s transfer rate. Two front-mounted 2 × RJ45 sockets form the network branch; one acts as an incoming line, and the other acts as a daisy-chain output. During operation, the unit remains synchronous to the POWERLINK cycle, so frames are relayed without buffering delay. Electrical demand is limited to 3 W, and the module supports only one interface, which simplifies address management. Segment wiring may extend to 100 m between nodes, allowing cabinet-to-cabinet links on the factory floor. Node identity is configured with two hexadecimal switches, and the power-on diagnostic LED confirms link integrity.
Beyond basic communication, the module integrates a 2-port hub architecture that forwards frames at the physical layer and supports up to 10 cascaded hub levels before timing boundaries are reached. Hardware and software watchdog functions monitor frame continuity and initiate a safe state if a timeout is detected. Visual status feedback is provided by 1 status LED and 2 link LEDs, making network faults visible without external tools. Environmental limits include a maximum operating temperature of 55 °C and transport humidity up to 95% at 40 °C, so the board can be shipped or stored in warm, moist climates without condensation damage.
