The 8AC112.60-1 is a Powerlink communication module produced by B&R Automation for the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. It serves as a deterministic Ethernet node that links distributed I/O, motion controllers, and safety devices to a real-time automation network. When installed in a control cabinet, the module extends network connectivity across multiple machine sections while keeping communication timing consistent. That behavior is useful in packaging, printing, and assembly equipment where coordinated data exchange has to remain predictable during continuous operation. Because the module handles deterministic traffic rather than ordinary office-network switching, it supports repeatable response behavior for axes, sensors, and distributed machine functions.
The cabling can be arranged in a star or tree topology with level 2 hubs, which gives the network flexibility in panel layout and branch routing. A data transfer rate of 100 Mbit/s matches standard Fast Ethernet hardware, and each segment may span up to a maximum of 100 m before signal regeneration is required. On the front panel, two RJ45 jacks carry network traffic and provide link-status indication for quick visual checks. The station operates synchronously with the Powerlink cycle, so frame forwarding follows the assigned time slot and helps limit jitter. The dual-port arrangement also allows the module to fit into line extensions or small local branches without requiring a separate external switch at every connection point.
The module draws a maximum of 2.5 W from the 24 Vdc backplane, which helps limit heat generation in compact cabinets. Addressing is set with two HEX switches, so the node can be assigned directly at the hardware level without relying on software access during initial setup. A compact, integrated two-port hub supports local branching, and cascading is possible through up to 10 hub levels before added latency begins to affect synchronization. Dynamic node allocation is not supported, and an onboard hardware watchdog supervises protocol execution and triggers a reset after a timeout, helping the network return to a known operating state if communication faults occur. Because power is taken from the backplane, supply distribution remains centralized within the control hardware.
