Product Description:
B & R Automation produces the 8AC110.60-3 communication module for its 8AC Powerlink Modules series. This device is a compact CAN interface that allows lower-level sensors, drives, and distributed I/O nodes to exchange real-time data with a Powerlink-based controller. By providing galvanic isolation between the field bus and the Ethernet backbone, the module forwards CAN telegrams without timing skew. That separation helps preserve signal integrity between subsystems and supports deterministic machine sequences and coordinated motion in automated packaging lines, material-handling stations, and assembly cells.
The module supports a CAN baud rate of 500 kbit/s, a speed suited to multi-node networks that need timely status updates without bus congestion. The termination scheme is externally wired, giving users flexibility to place the resistor at either end of the trunk and adapt the network to star or daisy-chain layouts. A single CAN port, identified in the data as 1, is routed through a 9-pin male DSUB connector that follows CiA pin assignments for uninterrupted shield continuity. With a maximum cable distance of 60 m at the stated baud rate, node placement remains flexible on compact machines. Internal circuitry draws only 0.7 W, so thermal load inside the control cabinet stays low even when several modules are mounted side by side.
The module is suitable for cabinet installation under demanding ambient conditions. Continuous operation is allowed up to 55 °C, supporting installation in cabinets that rely solely on forced air rather than active cooling. Two front-panel RXD/TXD LEDs show bus activity and provide a clear visual indication of network status. During storage and transport, the assembly withstands ambient humidity levels of 95% at 40 °C, which helps protect sensitive surface-mount components from moisture-induced corrosion before final installation.
