The 8AC110.60-2 is a communication interface module manufactured by B&R Automation for the 8AC Powerlink Modules series. This unit serves as a bridge between a local CAN segment and the deterministic Powerlink backbone, allowing distributed I/O, drive nodes, and other field devices to be integrated into a real-time machine network. By translating protocol traffic and presenting diagnostic LEDs, the module helps controllers coordinate motion sequences, safety interlocks, and process feedback within industrial automation cells.
The data channel on the module supports a transfer rate of 500 kbit/s, matching typical sensor bus requirements while keeping electromagnetic emissions low. The module has 1 CAN port, and its wiring is completed through a 9-pin male DSUB connector that mates with standard field cables used in control cabinets and machine-mounted equipment. To prevent signal reflections, the CAN line must use externally wired bus termination, which allows the network to end at this module or continue to another node. Electrical load on the control cabinet is minimal because the device draws only 0.7 W max. During operation, traffic activity is shown by RXD/TXD LEDs, allowing quick verification of message flow. The node address is set with a rotary switch, so setup can be completed without software tools.
