The 80SD100XS.C0XX-01 is a stepper motor module from B&R Automation that belongs to the 80SD Stepper Motor Modules series. Installed on a machine backplane, it energizes one two-phase stepper motor for controlled positioning in automated equipment. The module also monitors line conditions to help prevent electrical faults from disrupting motion. This combination supports repeatable movement in packaging, labeling, and small-parts assembly stations where missed steps could affect machine operation.
The power stage can deliver a peak winding current of 15 A peak during short dynamic events, while steady motion is handled at a nominal current of 10 A peak. The electronics limit surge duration to two seconds to protect the motor insulation from excessive thermal stress. The module accepts an inrush current of 10 A at startup, and regenerative braking current is limited to 1 A. Its control CPU consumes no more than 6 W while processing motion commands and only 0.5 W while idle, reducing heat generation inside the panel. Step commands are divided into 256 microsteps per full step, which reduces low-speed ripple without requiring mechanical dampers. The PWM bridge switches at 38.5 kHz, placing its switching noise above the typical human hearing range. The housing has an IP20 protection class, so the module must be installed inside a closed cabinet that prevents contact with internal electrical components.
The module weighs 650 g, allowing multiple axis modules to be grouped on a backplane without adding excessive panel mass. Supply transients are filtered, and conduction stops above 95 VDC to protect the MOSFET power stage from overvoltage. Operation is also suspended below 18 VDC to keep the gate drivers within their proper operating range. A single motor connection is provided, and the connected motor cable can be up to 25 m long. Communication takes place through the X2X real-time link with a minimum cycle time of 250 µs, allowing coordinated command updates with neighboring axes. A hardware current cutoff protects the phase outputs when abnormal loading or a motor-side fault causes current to rise beyond the permitted operating range.
