Product Description:
The 80SD100XD.C0XX-21 is a stepper-motor power stage produced by B&R Automation as part of the 80SD Stepper Motor Modules series. Designed for cabinet installation next to X20 CPUs, the module energizes hybrid stepper motors by shaping DC link energy into precise phase currents. Its role in an industrial line is to translate position setpoints from the machine control layer into incremental rotor movement, enabling accurate feed, index, or clamp motions without feedback devices. This open-loop operating method is useful in applications that need predictable step response and straightforward integration with machine control hardware.
Power to the module comes from a dedicated controller rail that must supply 24 VDC ±25%. An internal pre-charge circuit limits startup demand, although the board can still draw an inrush current of 10 A while the bus capacitors charge. During operation, the DC link is supported by a 940 µF reservoir capacitor that helps stabilize the chopped output stage. The driver can supply a nominal current of 10 A (peak) per phase and can withstand a maximum module current of 30 A (peak) during brief load surges. Thermal and switching losses result in controller dissipation of up to 6 W, so adequate cabinet ventilation is required during continuous operation.
Motion interface resources are located on the front panel, where two analog channels accept a control range of ±10 V. Two digital inputs can enable the step sequence or reset position data, and command data from the PLC is refreshed every 250 µs across the X2X backplane for deterministic profile updates. At the motor side, two motor connections support cable runs up to 25 m without signal degradation. Micro-positioning is achieved with a resolution of 256 microsteps per full step, synthesized at a carrier rate of 38.5 kHz. The housing has IP20 protection, and passive cooling is sufficient at the stated load.
