Product Description:
The 80SD100XD.C0XX-01 belongs to the 80SD Stepper Motor Modules series from B&R Automation. As a compact module for closed-loop control of two-phase stepper motors, it converts PLC logic commands into phase-aligned current pulses that drive the associated motor windings. Within an automation cell, the unit occupies the power electronics slot, linking the system backplane DC bus to individual axes so that positioning tables, feeders, or labelers can move in discrete increments under deterministic timing.
The module’s control section draws a maximum of 6 W, while standby consumption is limited to 0.5 W, which helps with cabinet thermal planning. A DC bus capacitor of 940 µF stores charge for rapid current transitions and smooths commutation ripple. During acceleration, the power stage can supply up to 30 A peak to the motor phases, while continuous operation is rated at 10 A peak. The current is pulse-width modulated at 38.5 kHz, a switching frequency that shifts audible noise beyond the normal hearing range and helps reduce torque ripple. At startup, the inrush current is limited to 10 A so upstream fusing can be coordinated with other drives on the shared DC link.
The housing weighs 655 g and has a mechanical envelope of 65 mm wide, 95 mm deep, and 134 mm high, allowing dense stacking on DIN rail without exceeding common load ratings. Two motor terminals simplify wiring, and the permitted motor lead length reaches 25 m when the actuator is installed away from the control panel. Positioning is supported by a resolution of 256 microsteps per full step, while the minimum X2X network cycle time is 250 µs for tight synchronization with neighboring modules. The enclosure has a protection rating of IP20, so the module is intended for installation in a clean enclosure with controlled airflow.
