In a production cell, the unit executes control logic, manages local I/O, and offers visual feedback, reducing reliance on a central cabinet controller. A ARM Cortex-A9 Dual Core processor running at 800 MHz drives the control tasks. The CPU is supported by 1 GB of DDR3 DRAM for variable storage and buffering of high-speed data. Application code and system firmware reside in 512 MB of onboard flash, allowing cold-start restoration without external media. Networking and power converge on the single Ethernet port that follows IEEE 802.3af (PoE), so the module can be supplied over the same cable used for plant communication.
