B&R Automation’s 5PP120.1214-37A belongs to the 5PP Power Panels series and serves as a compact human-machine interface for industrial equipment. The panel unites graphics processing, user input, and field wiring in one enclosure so a separate industrial PC is unnecessary. Installed on a control cabinet or pendant, it executes visualization projects, logs data, and exchanges variables with controllers over the plant network, giving operators immediate access to machine status screens, recipe selection, and alarm acknowledgment.
The hardware platform centers on a Geode SC2200 embedded processor that runs at 266 MHz. Real-time tasks are buffered in 128 MB of SDRAM, while image buffers use 4 MB of dedicated graphics memory for smooth redraws. Application code, recipes, and boot files reside in 2 MB of flash, providing non-volatile storage without spinning media. All electronics are powered by a regulated 24 VDC supply drawn from the machine’s control circuit, allowing the panel to start simultaneously with other 24-volt devices and simplifying power distribution.
The display uses a 12.1 in diagonal TFT color screen with a native resolution of 800 × 600 px. A CCFL backlight delivers 350 cd/m² of luminance and the display sustains a 300:1 contrast ratio, keeping onscreen objects legible in bright factory lighting. Touch input is accepted through an Elo AccuTouch resistive overlay, enabling operation with gloved hands or stylus tips. The aluminum bezel carries a front rating of IP65 / NEMA 250 Type 4X, so sprayed water and airborne dust do not reach the electronics. Internal consumption stays below 20 W, allowing the panel to remain cool in sealed enclosures and easing requirements on the cabinet’s power supply budget.
