Product Description:
The 5PCB00.BM45-01 computing unit from B & R Automation belongs to the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. As a compact system board, it is intended for mounting inside modular IPC racks where it runs control tasks, visualizes process data, and exchanges messages with field devices over deterministic buses. By concentrating CPU, graphics, and mass storage on one platform, the board removes the need for separate PLC CPUs and HMI panels in mid-range machinery. Designed for continuous operation on the plant floor, it serves as the central hardware layer between real-time operating systems and machine actuators.
At power-up, an Embedded AMI BIOS bootloader initializes the Intel GM45 chipset and starts the operating system. The heart of the board is an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor that runs at 2260 MHz. A front-side bus of 1066 MHz links the CPU to the GM45 northbridge, while a shared cache of 3 MB reduces external memory traffic during deterministic real-time cycles. The integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MDH can allocate up to 384 MB of system memory, enabling the controller to render vector-based operator screens without a discrete GPU. Dual Intel-compliant SDVO channels drive independent DVI connectors so logic and visualization packages can use separate monitors.
Two SO-DIMM sockets accept up to 8 GB of dual-channel DDR3 RAM, allowing large recipe files and SQL buffers to be cached locally. The GM45 controller drives twin SDVO channels that exit the board as DVI, and the maximum display resolution is 2048 × 1536 @ 70 Hz. The board also provides 4 SATA ports for SSDs or spinning media used for system images and historian data. Combined with 32-bit color support, these resources allow the board to host motion kernels, SCADA gateways, and condition-monitoring analytics within a single slot of the 5PC enclosure.
