The 5PC910 is an industrial PC unit produced by B&R Automation in the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. It is designed to run real-time control software, manage fieldbus communications, and forward HMI graphics to remote panels. By concentrating processing, storage, and networking in one IP20 enclosure, the product replaces separate PLC, motion, and gateway modules inside automated machinery and packaging lines.
The controller operates from a nominal supply of 24 VDC. This low-voltage input is standard for control cabinets and allows direct connection to regulated power supplies. During peak loading, the board can draw up to 5.5 A, a figure that affects power-supply sizing and wire selection. An internal maintenance battery rated at 950 mAh sustains the real-time clock and SRAM when external power is removed. For brief outages, the MTCX circuit provides a power-failure buffer of 10 ms, which is long enough for the controller to secure volatile data. Network throughput reaches 1 Gbit/s on each copper Ethernet channel, supporting time-critical protocols such as POWERLINK. Five USB receptacles share a backplane bus that transfers up to 5 Gbit/s, enabling rapid backups to solid-state drives or the connection of high-resolution cameras.
The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so installation must be inside a closed control cabinet where dust and moisture are limited. A single CFast slot wired to SATA III (6.0 Gbit/s) offers removable mass storage for operating system images or high-volume process data. Dual-homed networking is possible because the mainboard provides 2 Ethernet ports, which permits line or ring topologies without external switches. Additional connectivity includes a DVI-I panel output for industrial monitors and a COM1 interface that combines a 9-pin male D-Sub connector with RS-232 signaling at 115 kbit/s for legacy sensors, barcode readers, or maintenance consoles. The design consolidates these interfaces so one platform can handle visualization, deterministic control, and standard IT traffic.
