The 5PC820.SX01-00 is an industrial PC supplied by B&R Automation within the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. In a control cabinet, it serves as the central computation and communication node for machine-level sequencing, data collection, and network bridging between field devices and supervisory systems. Its task is to execute deterministic control code while also providing human-machine interface graphics and high-speed data exchange for distributed automation cells.
For deterministic fieldbus traffic, the integrated CAN interface operates at a maximum of 500 kbit/s, a rate suited to typical sensor and drive networks. Two independent Ethernet controllers support gigabit links at 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, enabling large program transfers and OPC UA data streams without saturating the system connection. The unit is powered from a control supply of 24 VDC ±25%, and internal converters draw a nominal board current of 5 A during full CPU and I/O activity. Five downstream USB master ports permit service imaging or keyboard attachment, while the dual CompactFlash sockets allow removable recipe storage and backup media. Graphical output is handled by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, so the unit can display vector-based process mimic diagrams without an external GPU.
The housing is only 53 mm wide, helping conserve cabinet space while passive ventilation supports an IP20 enclosure for indoor use. A single PCIe C expansion slot accepts motion or fieldbus cards, backed by 1 MB of fast static RAM that holds task stacks during boot and warm restarts. Nonvolatile user variables occupy 128 kB, preserving counters or batch identifiers when power is removed. Time stamping of events relies on an RTC with a typical drift of 12 ppm per day at 25 °C, which helps keep event logs consistent between maintenance intervals. The housing depth is 205 mm and the height is 344 mm, allowing the controller to fit into standard control cabinet layouts alongside drives and safety relays.
