The 5PC810.5X01-00 is an industrial PC-style control unit manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. In a production cell, it acts as the primary CPU that hosts the MTCX runtime, exchanges data with drives and I/O, and outputs real-time visualization to a local display. Its function is to consolidate motion control, logic, and network communication in one enclosure so that cabinet space and wiring are minimized.
Electrical supply is fed at 24 VDC ±25% SELV, and the internal power budget permits a draw of up to 6 A during startup of connected peripherals. A built-in power buffer bridges supply dips for 10 ms, preventing a processor reset. Communication toward higher-level networks is provided by two Gigabit interfaces, and each supports an effective throughput of 1 Gbit/s for deterministic fieldbus tunneling. Five front-accessible USB 2.0 connectors provide hot-swappable ports for program backup or service keyboards, while two isolated serial channels terminate on a 9-pin male D-sub connector. The display connector is a DVI-I female socket, and separate RJ45 links keep the serial and Ethernet domains independent of the control core. Volatile program data resides in 512 kB of SRAM.
Long-term data retention is handled outside of SRAM. A nonvolatile area provides 192 kB of remanent variables so production counters or recipe parameters persist after power loss. For removable mass storage, the unit offers 2 CompactFlash slots, allowing redundant system images or field-level data logging without network traffic. Parameter backups stay protected by an onboard real-time clock whose backup source is a Lithium-ion cell, specifically a Renata 950 mAh battery seated on the CPU board for tool-free replacement. This energy reserve maintains system time and supports orderly shutdown routines when the primary supply is interrupted.
