The 5PC800.SX01-00 industrial PC is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. It is intended to act as the supervisory controller in machine-level architectures, consolidating motion control, fieldbus routing, and HMI tasks inside one enclosure. With its modular storage bay and integrated communication hardware, the unit provides deterministic processing for discrete or continuous processes while forwarding diagnostic and production data to higher-level systems through standard Ethernet infrastructure. This arrangement allows one cabinet-mounted device to manage local control functions while also exchanging operating data with plant networks.

Two independent Ethernet ports support data rates of 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, enabling high-speed peer-to-peer exchange as well as segmented plant networks. Legacy equipment can be connected through 2x RS232 interfaces, and the serial controller supports data rates up to 115 kbit/s. Audio functions are handled by an AC97 codec that operates with a buffer time of 10 ms, helping reduce delay during operator prompts or alarm tones. Two Type I CompactFlash slots and a slide-in compact drive bay provide removable media storage for recipe files and archived process data. A single PCI or PCIe slot allows the installation of application-specific I/O or fieldbus cards, while the SDL/DVI/Monitor output links the unit to operator panels. Nominal logic power is derived from a 24 VDC ±25% supply that is galvanically isolated from field cabling, which helps separate the control electronics from external wiring paths.

The input circuit draws a nominal current of 6 A, so the power source must be sized with enough margin for startup demand. Front-mounted 5x USB 2.0 ports provide direct access for program loading, backup transfer, or data logging devices. Runtime variables are stored in integrated SRAM with a capacity of 512 kB, supporting fast access to temporary operating data during control tasks. An enclosure rating of IP20 means the device is intended for installation inside a closed cabinet to reduce exposure to dust and accidental contact. The front-facing port layout also supports routine access without requiring the unit to be removed from the panel or control enclosure.
