B&R Automation's industrial PC core, the 5PC800.B945-01, belongs to the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series and provides a compact computing platform for machine-level control, data collection, and HMI tasks. Installed in a control cabinet, this unit replaces separate PLC, motion, and visualization hardware. It runs deterministic real-time software on standard x86 technology.
Processing capability is centered on an Intel Core2 Duo L7400 that operates at 1500 MHz. The dual-core architecture provides 2 parallel cores that share a 667 MHz external bus, allowing simultaneous execution of control loops and visualization threads. A 32 kB L1 cache reduces latency for frequently used instructions, while the larger 4 MB L2 cache holds larger data blocks to limit memory fetches. The CPU is fabricated on a 65 nm process node, lowering thermal output for fanless enclosure mounting. Chipset pairing is Intel 945GME with the 82801GHM southbridge; this combination supplies the Intel GMA 950 graphics controller used for local visualization. Instruction pipelines are managed through ACPI so sleep states can be entered during idle periods, and the architecture also supports the S3 suspend mode used in the power table.
