B & R Automation manufactures the 5PC720.1043-K10 as part of its 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. This operator panel functions as a compact control and HMI node that can run machine software, link to field devices, and drive the integrated display without an external PC. In automation cells, the panel executes logic, routes production data to plant networks, and provides an interface for alarms, recipes, and diagnostics. By combining processing, storage, communication, and display hardware in one housing, it minimizes cabinet space and shortens installation time.

The computing section is built around an Intel Atom processor that balances low heat generation with adequate control performance. Its core frequency of 1600 MHz pairs with a front-side bus clock of 533 MHz, allowing rapid data movement between the CPU and the board’s DDR2 memory controller. A cache of 512 kB stores frequently used instructions to reduce access latency. Program code and runtime data reside in a DDR2 SODIMM, while two CompactFlash slots provide removable storage for operating files or machine recipes. Standard I/O includes two 10/100/1000-Base-T Ethernet ports for PLC networking, a Type A USB connector for service peripherals, and an RS-232 serial port that can link to legacy drives or barcode scanners.

The front panel houses a 10.4" (264 mm) screen that uses TFT Color technology plus an analog resistive touch layer for reliable input even with work gloves. Its native resolution of 640 x 480 pixels is suitable for concise status graphics, and a DVI interface permits duplication on a larger monitor for supervisory stations. All electronics are fed by a single 24 VDC supply, allowing the unit to share the same power rail as sensors and actuators.
