The 5PC600.X945-00 is an embedded industrial PC module produced by B & R Automation within the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. Designed for cabinet mounting beside machine controllers, the module executes real-time control tasks, data logging, and network communication required in automated production lines. In this role, it supplies processing power, memory management, and integrated graphics so that higher-level PLC code and operator interface software can coexist on a single hardware platform.
It is based on the Intel 945GME chipset and uses an Intel Atom N270 processor manufactured on a 45 nm process node. The CPU runs at 1600 MHz internally while communicating with peripherals over a 533 MHz external front-side bus, giving predictable timing for fieldbus stacks and interrupt-driven I/O. A 24 kB L1 cache stores frequently executed instructions, and a 512 kB L2 cache holds larger code blocks to reduce access to system RAM. Two DDR2 sockets accept up to 2 GB of memory, allowing compact HMI applications to run without swapping. DDR2 technology provides higher throughput than earlier SDR designs and matches the voltage limits of fanless enclosures used in motion-control cabinets.
Startup is handled by an AMI BIOS, ensuring deterministic handoff to the real-time operating system. Nonvolatile storage is connected through a single 1× EIDE interface, which supports flash-based mass memory in a straightforward layout. The onboard graphics subsystem is driven by an Intel GMA 950 controller paired with a 400 MHz RAMDAC. This combination outputs up to 2048 × 1536 @ 75 Hz at a maximum color depth of 32-bit. For texture buffering and window composition, the controller can draw on 224 MB of shared system memory, which is sufficient for SCADA panels that rely on antialiased vector graphics.
