The 5PC600.X855-04 is a processing module in the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series from B & R Automation. Designed as the central computing element inside distributed control panels, the unit executes logic, visualization, and communication tasks for machinery and plant equipment. By integrating an embedded processor, chipset, and industrial connectors, it supplies deterministic processing power that can be mounted directly in a machine cabinet without separate desktop hardware.
At its heart is a Intel Celeron M running at 600 MHz; this clock frequency defines the base instruction rate for control algorithms. The CPU mates with the Intel 82855GME + 82801DB chipset. A 400 MHz front-side bus synchronizes all transactions between processor and chipset. Fast access is enabled by 32 kB of L1 cache and 512 kB of L2 cache, trimming external memory cycles during repetitive PLC scans. Two IDE ports accept plant data drives, and transfers execute in UDMA 100 mode. The command set supports MMX Technology and SSE2 for packed arithmetic, and the processor contains a floating-point unit for real-time mathematics. Application code, buffers, and video share up to 1 GB of system memory.
B & R pairs the CPU with an on-die graphics controller, the Intel Extreme Graphics 2, which renders user-interface screens at a maximum color depth of 32-bit. Video memory is reserved dynamically up to 64 MB Shared Max, so display tasks do not impact deterministic logic execution. The memory subsystem relies on DDRAM modules, and the silicon is fabricated on a fine-line 0.13 µm process that lowers leakage current. Together with the SSE2 vector unit, these hardware features allow high-resolution HMI graphics while maintaining cycle times. Board-level arbitration ensures IDE traffic and graphics DMA coexist without bus contention, and the external bus architecture keeps data latencies predictable for motion and safety components.
