It serves as a compact controller that uses a Pentium M processor as the computational core for programmable logic, motion control, and plant-level data exchange in automated equipment. By combining PC-class processing with dedicated I/O expansion options, the device allows deterministic execution of soft PLC tasks while simultaneously running supervisory software such as SCADA viewers.
Inside the chassis, the Pentium M runs at 1800 MHz, while a 400 MHz front-side bus links the CPU to the 82855GME GMHC northbridge and 82801DB ICH4 southbridge. The processor uses a 90 nm manufacturing process that helps reduce thermal output for fanless cabinet installation. Primary cache is 32 kB, and secondary cache is 2 MB, which helps reduce latency in time-sensitive control tasks. The command unit supports MMX and SSE2 instructions used for signal processing. AMI BIOS performs startup checks, after which operating systems and fieldbus stacks are loaded from IDE media.
