The 5PC600.X855-00 is a compact processor board manufactured by B&R Automation for the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. It forms the computing core of distributed controllers, running PLC logic, motion sequences, and operator interfaces directly inside machinery. By embedding CPU, chipset, memory, and peripheral buses on one card, the unit minimizes cabinet space and streamlines wiring in automated production lines and process cells. This arrangement lets the board handle control tasks and local visualization within a single embedded platform.
At the heart of the module is an Intel Pentium M CPU produced with a 0.13 µm process. The core operates at 1100 MHz and communicates over a 400 MHz external bus that links to the southbridge. A paired Intel 82855GME / 82801DB chipset handles memory control, USB, and legacy I/O, while one SO-DIMM DDR socket supports up to 1 GB of system RAM. The architecture includes a 32 kB L1 cache and a 1 MB L2 cache to reduce access latency between the processor and main memory. A battery-backed real-time clock maintains system time when the main supply is removed, and the boot sequence is initiated through an AMI BIOS bootloader stored in onboard flash.
Graphics output is provided by an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller that shares up to 64 MB of system memory and renders images at a maximum 32-bit color depth for HMI displays. Mass storage devices connect via 2 IDE ports on the UDMA 100 bus, allowing simultaneous attachment of hard drives or solid-state modules. Timekeeping precision is maintained to within 12 ppm/day at 25 °C, aided by the onboard battery supply. The board also includes one memory slot and battery-backed RTC support for stable operation during power interruptions. This layout supports local operating systems, application files, and display output without requiring separate computing hardware.
