The 5P5000V1250 industrial computer belongs to the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series produced by B & R Automation. As a compact control platform, it coordinates motion, logic, and visualization tasks on the plant floor and connects field devices to higher-level networks through built-in serial, fieldbus, and video resources. The unit integrates standard PC technology with hardened components so it can run real-time operating systems in machine panels or cabinet racks.
Core hardware supports deterministic execution. The board is initialized by the AWARD EliteBIOS, and instruction throughput is improved by a 512 KB PB-Cache that reduces external memory access. Communication with distributed I/O is possible through an electrically isolated CAN interface, which also accepts non-maskable interrupts for time-critical events. Two asynchronous ports are present, and COM1 offers RS-232 with a 16-byte FIFO, while COM2 provides the same function for auxiliary peripherals. Thermal management relies on analog-controlled housing ventilation, so fan speed changes to match load. Operating parameters are preserved by a separate battery that backs up setup data and SRAM contents, and FlashPROM backup helps setup settings survive power cycles.
Display and user interfaces are matched to both legacy and modern devices. The onboard graphics controller drives up to 1024 × 768 resolution with 256 colors through a 15-pin VGA D-type connector, while an external disk drive port accepts standard floppy mechanisms for removable media. Parallel printing or ASIC programming is accommodated by an LPT1 that supports standard, EPP, and ECP modes. A Universal Serial Bus connection provides hot-plug expansion for memory sticks or HMI dongles. Operator input wiring follows PC conventions, with the keyboard connected through a PS/2 plug and a standard PS/2 mouse using the same interface. The math processor is integrated directly into the CPU package, so there is no separate upgrade socket.
