The 5MP040.0381-02 is a handheld operator interface manufactured by B & R Automation within the 5MP Mobile Panels series. It provides machine builders with a portable human-machine interface that lets operators execute commands, view status messages, and adjust parameters directly from the production line. By combining a low-power embedded computer with an integrated monochrome display, the unit supplies basic visualization and control functions in assembly cells, packaging stations, and mobile service carts.

The panel carries a 3.8 in (96.5 mm) monochrome LCD that renders process graphics at 320 × 240 px. Visibility under indoor lighting is supported by a luminance of 110 cd/m², while a 20:1 contrast ratio maintains distinction between foreground and background elements. The screen is driven by an Intel PXA 270 application processor that operates at 416 MHz. This processor works with 256 MB of DRAM so that locally executed visualization pages, alarm lists, and keypad routines can run smoothly. The display subsystem and embedded CPU give the device enough performance to refresh data fields, animate simple objects, and react to operator inputs in real time.

Retentive data such as boot code and configuration files reside in 128 MB of onboard flash, leaving ample space for recipes and error logs. Network connectivity is provided by an SMSC11X controller that negotiates half- or full-duplex links up to 100 Mbit/s, allowing the panel to exchange variables with PLCs over standard Ethernet wiring.
