Product Description:
The 5LS182.6-2 logic scanner card is produced by B & R Automation for the 5LS Logic Scanner Cards series. Installed in PLC backplanes, it links local controller logic with deterministic Ethernet segments, supporting both management and subordinate roles within an automation cell. The module processes cyclic data traffic and scans relay outputs so field devices receive synchronized commands, letting machine builders expand high-speed I/O islands without adding external switches.
It communicates on the industrial Ethernet fieldbus POWERLINK (V1/V2) and transmits process frames at a line rate of 100 Mbit/s. The onboard ports use 2x Shielded RJ45 connectors, enabling daisy-chain or ring wiring while maintaining electromagnetic compatibility. Automatic crossover detection, autonegotiation, and full-duplex signaling align with the ANSI/IEEE 802.3 physical layer so the module selects the best link parameters without manual jumpers. Battery-backed data buffering preserves unsent telegrams during a supply interruption, and the interface is identified as Type 4 for system slot mapping. With a dissipation of only 2 W, thermal load in compact cabinets stays low, and the onboard remanent memory of 1 MB stores configuration objects that must survive a power cycle.
In operation, the card can act as either a managing node or a controlled node, allowing the network role to be assigned according to the application. The permitted copper segment length between stations is 100 m, which matches standard Cat-5e channel limits in factory environments. An IP20 housing means it must be mounted inside a closed control cabinet, but no additional gaskets are required. The integrated relay channel can switch up to 10 A at a maximum of 30 VDC, providing a direct interface for enabling contactors or safety loops without an external interposing relay.
