Product Description:
The 5LS182.6-1 logic scanner card is manufactured by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5LS Logic Scanner Cards series. Installed in a PC-based control chassis, this board provides a deterministic communication interface between the main processor and distributed field devices in an automation cell. Its principal role is to scan network traffic, store system status in battery-backed memory, and present a ready signal to the controller so machine cycles can continue without interruption. By occupying the host’s standard PCI expansion slot, the card integrates with industrial PCs that coordinate motion, safety, and process tasks.
The card handles network communication and retained memory for control tasks. Communication takes place over POWERLINK (V1/V2) and is carried on a 100BASE-TX layer that maintains a deterministic bandwidth of 100 Mbit/s across segment lengths up to 100 m. The wiring terminates through two shielded RJ45 hub connectors, allowing line topology without external switches. The interface is specified as Type 3, and the auxiliary Pc-IF1 port is isolated to help prevent ground loops. A coin cell rated at 950 mAh supplies 3 V to keep 1 MB of battery-backed SRAM active, so network variables can survive power loss until the battery is replaced.
Power draw, enclosure protection, and relay signaling support cabinet installation. The board draws 2 W from the host backplane and fits a standard half-size PCI slot, easing installation in compact industrial PCs. The enclosure has an IP20 rating and is intended for closed control cabinets. A ready relay with a contact form of 1 NO + 1 NC can switch currents up to 6 A at 30 VDC, giving the controller a hardwired indication that the network is operational. Pc-IF1 isolation and the 3 V backup supply help protect retained data and reduce the risk of uncontrolled machine stops.
