Product Description:
5E9000.12 is a membrane keypad. It is produced by B&R Automation. A membrane keypad is a user interface device made of flexible, layered sheets that use pressure pads instead of mechanical switches to register input. These keypads are widely used in industrial panels and HMI systems due to their sealed surface, low profile, and cost-effectiveness. A typical membrane keypad has four layers. The top layer is printed with graphic symbols, labels, and buttons that operators can recognize. The symbols vary from application to application. The spacer layer separates contacts when a button is not pressed. The circuit layer consists of printed conductive traces. The fourth layer is backer/adhesive layer used for mounting. B&R has designed the 5E9000.12 keypad for operator input in industrial control systems.
Membrane keypads have a sealed surface that is resistant to dust, moisture, and chemicals. The compact and thin design makes them ideal for flat panel installations. Absence of moving parts gives membrane keypads a comparatively long operating life. There are a total of 32 keys on the 5E9000.12 keypad. B&R recommends 0 to 50 degrees Celsius for keypad operation and -20 to 60 degrees Celsius for keypad storage. The relative humidity should be kept within 5 to 85% during operation. At 40 degrees Celsius, the range improves to 5 to 90%. For storage at temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, the relative humidity should be less than 90%. Condensation is not allowed on the membrane keypad when it is in operation or kept in storage. Interfaces for communication are located at the rear of the keypad. The power connections are also located at the rear side of the membrane keypad.
