The 5DLSDL.1000-01 is a link module produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the 5DL AP Link Modules series. It serves as a field-level attachment point that forwards supply voltage, serial display lines, and service data between successive operator panels, allowing decentralized visualization devices to share power and communication over a single SDL ribbon. Within an automation cabinet, the module occupies minimal DIN-rail space and supports chaining touch screens, matrix keypads, and USB peripherals along the SDL bus. This arrangement reduces separate wiring runs between adjacent HMI devices and keeps the display network organized inside distributed machine stations.
During operation, the module carries an outgoing load of up to 4.2 A maximum, so branch current must remain within that limit. The supply input accepts 24 VDC ±25% SELV, allowing tolerance to common control-system voltage fluctuations. Internal electronics dissipate 3 W typical, so additional panel cooling is rarely necessary. Two SDL terminals marked IN and OUT provide plug-through cabling, allowing signals and power to continue without manual reconnection. For extended layouts, the second downstream segment can span 40 m before voltage drop or timing skew requires another active node. Because the module passes both power and communication through the same SDL path, it can be placed between neighboring panels without adding separate distribution blocks.
The module exchanges display data, touch coordinates, matrix-key status, and service packets, while its USB uplink complies with the USB 1.1 standard for low-speed accessories. That makes it suitable for simple service devices and input accessories used at the panel level. Screw clamp contacts reach their specified retention when tightened to 0.5 Nm, and the housing is secured by 2 locating screws to resist vibration. Because the insulation is rated for overvoltage category II, installation is limited to circuits connected to the machine's secondary distribution rather than directly to the AC supply. There is no BL adjuster, so display brightness must be controlled in the connected panel.
