The 5DLSD3.1000-00 link module is built by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5DL AP Link Modules series. It acts as a power-supplied communication node that extends SDL3 fieldbus segments to remote panels or machine sections in industrial automation cells. This arrangement lets one module distribute communications and auxiliary power to separated sections without extra interface hardware. By consolidating both logic signaling and auxiliary power on a single trunk, the unit simplifies cabinet wiring and keeps deterministic data exchange between higher-level controllers and distributed I/O.
The module uses a 24 VDC ±25% SELV supply and can accept up to 4.2 A maximum on that rail, so the protected 24 V feeder must account for inrush and branch diversity. Typical power consumption is 6 W, which eases thermal planning inside compact enclosures. Classified in overvoltage category II, the board tolerates switching transients normally encountered in control cabinets. The SDL3 backplane reaches remote stations through a shielded twisted-pair trunk up to 100 m, provided the connection uses at least Category 6a cabling. This copper link terminates on the dedicated SDL3 port, enabling cyclic telegrams and diagnostic frames without additional repeaters. Using copper cabling also supports practical cabinet-to-panel routing inside machines where short, direct fieldbus runs are needed.
For panel assembly, two locating screws position the housing, and the clamps must be secured with a torque not exceeding 0.5 Nm maximum. The SDL3 signal line mates with a shielded RJ45 jack that maintains the cable screen through the chassis for EMC conformity. A single USB maintenance port is fitted; it uses a Type A receptacle, follows the USB 2.0 standard, and permits connected service devices to draw up to 500 mA maximum. Maintaining the shield through the chassis helps reduce noise on high-speed communication lines in electrically busy enclosures. The port supports low-, full-, or high-speed operation, so local service connections can handle routine data transfer and log retrieval.
