The 5C5601.12 is a controller board from B&R Automation that belongs to the 5CS Provit Controller System Units series. Within an automation cabinet, it functions as the central computing element that hosts the operating system, interfaces with fieldbus modules, and drives local operator displays through its flat-panel and CRT outputs. By combining PC-class processing with industrial I/O, the board provides deterministic control for packaging machines, material-handling cells, and other equipment that requires synchronized motion and process sequencing.
An AWARD Elite BIOS initializes the hardware and exposes configuration menus for boot order, peripheral enabling, and security options. The logic subsystem is built around the Intel 440BX chipset, which supports the front-side bus and coordinates memory, IDE, and PCI traffic. CPU choice is flexible because the board carries a Socket 370 that accepts Intel Celeron or Pentium III processors. Three memory channels are wired for PC100 DIMM modules, allowing a total installed capacity of up to 512 MB. Two E-IDE connectors support hard drives or solid-state disks, while an external 3.5-inch floppy interface is present for legacy service tasks. Video output is routed to both FPD and 15-pin VGA connectors, driven by the onboard Chips & Technologies controller and its dedicated SRAM. A single parallel port supports SPP, EPP, or ECP modes for printers or specialized dongles.
Network traffic moves through the onboard Intel 82559ER controller that negotiates 10 or 100 Mbit/s Ethernet links. Program and data exchanges with PLCs or drives can be handled by two RS-232 channels that feature 16-byte FIFOs for reduced interrupt overhead. Video buffering relies on 4 MB of SDRAM attached to the display controller. The graphics engine is the Chips & Technologies 69030, which supports simultaneous CRT and flat-panel timing. Two USB 1.1 ports support operator panels, scanners, or removable storage.
