Product Description:

The 5C4000.01 PC-based controller is produced by B & R Automation as part of the 5C4 PC Controllers series. The unit combines an industrial CPU platform with an operator interface so that it can execute control algorithms and present process data on the built-in display. Deployed in automation cabinets or control desks, it coordinates machine sequences, manages fieldbus traffic, and allows users to interact with real-time diagnostics through a membrane keypad and graphical output.

Internally, the controller operates on a 486SLC2-25/50 processor clocked at 25 MHz internally and doubled to 50 MHz for the core, giving adequate throughput for motion and logic tasks. Its base working memory is 4 MBytes, and a 16 KByte internal cache reduces external bus waits. When the application grows, DRAM can be expanded up to 16 MBytes without board modifications. Mass storage is provided by a 3.5-inch / 1.44 MByte floppy drive and two hard-disk bays that accept standard IDE devices. Four ISA (16-bit) AT slots allow installation of communication or motion cards, and worst-case electrical draw is limited to 170 W, which helps keep cabinet thermal loads predictable.

Physical integration follows the EN 60073 seven-module rack profile. The housing measures 483 × 310 × 188 mm and fits a 19-inch frame at module height 7. The operator area is sealed to IP54, so airborne dust and stray splashes do not affect the keys or screen. A passive TFT supplies a 640 × 480 pixel image, and the rear connector can drive an external VGA monitor for larger views. Key input relies on a matrix with 12 numeral keys, 4 cursor keys, 10 soft keys, 16 function keys, and 2 shift keys for direct command entry. Protection against overcurrent is handled by a T 3.15 A / 250 V fuse mounted on the supply board.
