The 5C2001.22 processor module is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5C2 Compact Processors series. Designed as the central unit in an industrial control system, it coordinates program execution, data handling, and network traffic for machine automation tasks. By combining a CPU, volatile memory, non-volatile storage, and several field interfaces on a single card, it simplifies panel layout and shortens wiring inside control cabinets.
Its computing core is an 80486DX5-133 MHz processor that runs real-time operating code, while an onboard DRAM pool of 32 MB holds the active program and runtime data. A separate SRAM block of 256 kB retains variables during power cycles. Under nominal load, the board draws only 14.5 W from a regulated supply of 24 VDC. Electrically isolated CAN, four 16-byte FIFO serial ports, one parallel port, and an NE2000-compatible Ethernet interface on BNC connectors provide deterministic communication with drives, HMI stations, and supervisory PCs. Two Type II or one Type III PC Card slots allow expansion, and a single 40 mm ball-bearing fan helps maintain component temperature around the CPU.
The housing measures 182 × 182 × 50 mm, allowing DIN rail or panel installation without excessive depth. Operation is permitted up to 3,000 m altitude, making the module suitable for elevated production sites. A C&T 65550 graphics controller works with 1 MB of video RAM to drive monochrome or color LCD panels for local diagnostics. Application code and historical data reside on the swappable CompactFlash (ATA/True IDE) card, while the expansion slots remain free for additional fieldbus adapters. All connectors are placed on one side, simplifying cable routing inside the cabinet.
