Product Description:
The 5C2001.18 central processing unit is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5C2 Compact Processors series. It functions as a compact controller that hosts the program logic, user interface, and communication layers needed to coordinate motion, I/O, and visualization hardware on automated machinery. By combining embedded processing with integrated graphics support, the module provides a single point of control for operator input, fieldbus traffic, and real-time task execution in industrial plants.
The control electronics operate from a regulated 24 VDC (±6 V) supply, so the unit can share a common low-voltage rail with sensors and actuators. Installation is permitted up to 3,000 m above sea level without derating, and the electronics fit into a 50 mm deep slot while occupying 182 mm in both height and width. The housing must be mounted vertically within a ±45° window to maintain convection. An onboard CAN fieldbus port supports system networking, and a bidirectional LPT1 parallel channel is available for legacy peripherals. For local visualization, the flat-panel display output is fixed at 640 × 480 pixels with 262,144 colors, and rendering is handled by a C&T 65550 graphics controller that offloads the CPU during screen refresh.
A CRT or TFT monitor can be driven at 1024 × 768 pixels through the video header, while up to 128 discrete keys or status LEDs can be scanned when application-specific keypads are attached. The base unit supports a maximum of 8 keypad modules, each exchanging data through a 16-byte serial FIFO for debounced, low-latency transfer. Video buffering is provided by 1 MByte of dedicated memory, leaving user RAM free for control tasks. The 16-bit parallel graphics bus shares bandwidth with the LPT1 interface, so display updates and print operations use the same data path.
