The 5C2001.15 is a compact processor module manufactured by B & R Automation for the 5C2 Compact Processors series. Intended for mid-range programmable logic controller architectures, this module supplies CPU, memory, and graphical output resources that coordinate motion, I/O, and HMI tasks in industrial automation cells. By integrating the processor, volatile memory, and field connections inside a 50 mm deep housing, it minimizes panel space while maintaining deterministic control execution.
At its core, an 80486DX2 CPU operates at 66 MHz, giving the unit sufficient instruction throughput for sequential logic, PID loops, and onboard visualization. The main program variables reside in 8 MB of DRAM, while frequently accessed flags are buffered in 256 kB of SRAM to shorten cycle times. A separate 1 MB graphics frame store works with the C&T 65550 controller to render VGA screens for local operator panels. Removable data logging is handled through a CompactFlash ATA / True IDE slot, and additional removable storage or network cards can be inserted in the two Type II or single Type III PC-Card bays. A 16-byte serial FIFO reduces interrupt overhead when high-speed data is streamed to downstream drives.
The processor sits in a 182 mm wide by 182 mm high enclosure that aligns flush with standard DIN-rail carrier frames. Total energy draw is 11.3 W, permitting dense cabinet layouts without exceeding typical 24 VDC supply budgets. Four onboard communication channels provide application connectivity, giving 4 serial ports in total, with 2 isolated serial ports available for noise-sensitive sensors on floating equipment. The remaining channels can attach operator terminals or gateway modules without requiring separate interface hardware. Operation remains stable up to 3000 m elevation, so the module can be installed in high-altitude water treatment or mining facilities without derating.
