Product Description:
The 5C2001.03 compact processor is manufactured by B & R Automation and belongs to the 5C2 Compact Processors series. It acts as the central computing unit inside modular control cabinets, providing program execution and basic graphical handling for small- to mid-scale machine lines. Within an automation cell, the processor coordinates fieldbus communication, local I/O tasks, and user-interface signaling to keep motion, safety, and diagnostics routines synchronized.
The unit’s computing core is a 486DX5-133 that runs real-time control loops while an integrated 8 MB DRAM stores variables and operating-system code. Graphic data for operator panels is buffered in 1 MB of video RAM working with the C&T 65550 graphics controller. The enclosure size of 182 × 182 × 50 mm permits shallow-depth mounting, and a 40 mm ball-bearing fan moves air across the heat sink to preserve component life. Typical power draw is 17.3 W, so several processors can share a modest cabinet supply without overheating. COM1 handles RS-232 signals for point-to-point links, COM2 can switch between RS-232 and TTY voltage levels, while COM4 supports either RS-232 or 422 differential wiring. A bidirectional LPT1 port remains available for parallel peripherals.
All resources above are powered from a 24 V DC supply that is filtered on the backplane. The processor accepts two Type II or one Type III PC Card in the expansion slot, stated as 2× Type II / 1× Type III, enabling flash storage or fieldbus adapters without opening the housing. For distributed architectures, COM3 is configured for RS-485/TTY signaling, and an isolated CAN interface is routed to the same connector to separate the bus from ground faults. Reliable operation is specified up to 3,000 m above sea level, allowing installation on elevated production sites.
