The 5C2001 is a central processing module engineered by B & R Automation for the 5C2 Compact Processors series. It is intended to execute control logic, manage fieldbus traffic, and drive local HMI graphics in automated machinery. By integrating CPU, communication, and video resources in one housing, it streamlines cabinet layouts and reduces wiring in distributed control architectures used on packaging lines, material-handling cells, and small process skids.
The unit operates from a stabilized input of 24 V DC (±6 V). Startup is managed through an Award Elite BIOS that supports deterministic loading of the real-time kernel. Two asynchronous channels are available: COM1 uses the RS 232 standard for point-to-point links, while COM2 can switch between RS 232/TTY modes to match legacy current-loop devices. An onboard isolated CAN interface helps protect signal integrity between noisy power sections and the logic domain, and a bidirectional LPT1 port supports parallel peripherals such as label printers. For visualization, the processor uses a graphics controller identified as C&T 65550 with 1 MB of video memory, allowing basic process mimics to be shown through either a Flat Display Port or the dedicated monitor port. A PS/2 keyboard connector permits direct operator input, and the integrated real-time clock timestamps alarms during brief power loss.
Depth is limited to 50 mm. The height and width are both 182 mm, so the device fits on a 200 mm DIN rail section without obstructing cable ducts. The CAN transceiver is identified as Isolated, which helps minimize ground-loop currents when the controller is mounted across segmented earth zones. Continuous operation is supported up to 3,000 m above sea level, allowing use in elevated facilities such as alpine water plants or high-rise material transfer stations.
