Product Description:
The 5C2000.02 compact processor module is produced by B & R Automation as a member of the 5C2 Compact Processors series. Inside an automation cabinet, it acts as the central logic unit, executing machine programs, coordinating local I/O, and passing deterministic data to supervisory controllers. Because the board carries an embedded 486-class CPU and non-volatile resources, it performs sequencing, arithmetic, and user-interface tasks without an external industrial PC, and it draws its operating power directly from a 24 V field supply.
Core processing is delivered by the 80486SXLC2-50 CPU, clock-doubled to 50 MHz to increase instruction throughput while limiting heat. Run-time variables reside in 4 MB of DRAM, and high-speed buffers use 256 kB of SRAM that can be battery-backed for short outages. Firmware and boot code occupy a 2 MB FPROM device, protecting them from accidental overwrite. The module operates from a regulated 24 VDC supply. Removable mass storage is provided by a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive with a formatted capacity of 1.44 MB. Two Type II PC-Card receptacles permit the addition of flash or fieldbus cards, and the front edge presents a PS/2-AT keyboard connector, one parallel port for printers or dongles, plus display headers for flat panels or standard monitors.
For networked control, the board carries one electrically isolated CAN bus, keeping field wiring transients away from logic ground. Legacy peripherals connect through 3 serial interfaces that can be configured for RS-232 signaling. Swappable storage or communication adapters are accommodated by 2 PC-card slots, while time-critical event stamping is supported by a battery-backed real-time clock that preserves the date and time during power loss. This mix of interfaces allows the 5C2000.02 to connect with operator terminals, motion drives, and supervisory computers within a compact 24 V control node.
