B&R Automation manufactures the 5AP5120.1906-000 operator interface, a member of the 5AP Single Touch Automation Panels series. This panel combines display and touch input in a single sealed module that serves as the front end of PLC-controlled machinery. Its purpose is to give production staff direct access to parameter pages, trend views, and diagnostics through a finger-operated resistive screen, reducing wiring and cabinet space compared with discrete push buttons and indicator lights. It is suited for machine interfaces that need both visualization and direct user input at the same location.
The visual subsystem centers on a 19.0-inch diagonal TFT color display with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, providing square-pixel mapping for SCADA graphics. An LED backlight supports a high contrast ratio of 1500:1, so color-coded alarms remain distinguishable under overhead lighting. The horizontal viewing angle is right 85° / left 85°, and the vertical viewing angle is up 85° / down 85°, allowing the screen to be read from the side or above a conveyor. Touch interaction is handled by an analog resistive overlay governed by a serial 12-bit controller, enabling accurate point selection even when the operator is wearing gloves. This arrangement supports menu navigation, setpoint entry, and alarm acknowledgment on one front panel. The architecture places the controller onboard, eliminating the need for external analog-to-digital conversion hardware.
The panel is built in a coated aluminum housing that measures 461.2 mm in width and 372 mm in height, yet it weighs only 7300 g, so it can be mounted on a swing arm or cabinet door. All front-facing surfaces meet IP65 in accordance with EN 60529, meaning they resist low-pressure water jets and airborne dust when the unit is correctly gasketed. The sealed front is well suited for machine areas where moisture or airborne debris may be present during normal operation. Because the enclosure is fanless, the LED backlight and resistive sensor operate without separate cooling paths, simplifying enclosure layout and maintenance.
