The 5AP1120 is an operator interface panel produced by B&R Automation within the 5AP Single Touch Automation Panels series. It combines a display and touchscreen so that machine operators can issue commands and monitor process data directly from the cabinet door of an industrial control system. By integrating visualization and input in one compact unit, the panel streamlines human-machine interaction on automated lines, packaging equipment, and material-handling stations. This arrangement helps keep routine control functions and live status information in one accessible location on the machine.
The housing is built around an aluminum front frame whose exposed face achieves an IP65 protection rating against dust and water jets, while the rear side is limited to IP20 and must remain inside an enclosed cabinet. A factory-installed 3 mm compression gasket bridges the gap between the bezel and the panel cutout during the intended cabinet-mounted installation. The screen is a TFT color display illuminated by a long-life LED backlight, delivering clear graphical feedback without external lighting. Landscape orientation is fixed, which supports wide-format screen layouts for status views, alarms, and process graphics. Behind the front foil, a polyester overlay resists scratches and cleaning fluids while maintaining optical clarity during regular use.
User interaction is captured through a single-touch surface that relies on analog resistive technology, a construction that accepts input from gloved hands or styluses without recalibration. The touch stack transmits roughly 81% ±3% of incident light, balancing brightness with durability in industrial service. Position data are digitized by a serial, 12-bit controller, giving 4096 discrete points on each axis for consistent cursor placement and reliable button actuation. This input method supports straightforward screen navigation and dependable response where direct contact through protective layers is required.
