The 5ACCIF02.ISS0-000 is a serial communication interface module produced by B&R Automation for the 5AC CNC Addon Modules series. Installed on the system backplane, the module adds dual serial ports to CNC and motion controllers, enabling point-to-point links with drives, operator panels, barcode scanners, and diagnostic tools in automated cells. By providing protocol-independent electrical conversion and signal conditioning, the board lets the host CPU exchange parameter data and status information with external devices without occupying existing fieldbus channels.
It uses a 9-pin male D-Sub connector for each port, so standard straight-through serial cables can be used without custom pinouts. The module exposes 2 independent channels that can be configured separately for device or host roles. Transfer speed is selectable up to 115 kbit/s, allowing integration of legacy sensors at low baud rates as well as higher-rate data logging peripherals. Electrical levels follow RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 standards, allowing the interface type to match cable length and noise conditions. All signal lines are galvanically isolated, which helps break ground loops and protects controller logic from external transients encountered on long machine-mounted cables.
Current draw from the backplane is limited to 1.5 W, minimizing thermal load inside crowded CNC cabinets. Each channel contains a 16-byte FIFO buffer that smooths bursts of data so the CPU can service interrupts at more relaxed intervals. Line termination is switchable via a slide switch, enabling onboard resistors when the interface sits at a bus end and disabling them at mid-span nodes. By default, the resistors are off, which helps prevent accidental double termination during setup. These options simplify wiring in distributed motion installations and allow the module to support several serial standards on the same control platform.
