Product Description:
The 5AC901.IUPS-01 is an uninterruptible power supply add-on module produced by B & R Automation for the 5AC CNC Addon Modules series. Installed on the DC intermediate circuit of a CNC controller, the board maintains control voltage during short mains failures, giving the automation system enough time to store position data and execute an orderly shutdown. It supports integrated temperature sensing and battery management to fit seamlessly into industrial cabinets controlling machining centers, pick-and-place platforms, and other motion equipment.
During operation the module draws a maximum of 25 W, and at that point the DC input requires only 0.9 A, letting designers share a small power budget across multiple axis cards. When charging the external maintenance battery, the electronics limit current to a typical value of 0.88 A to reduce heating on both the board and the cell pack. Embedded monitoring circuitry includes deep discharge protection, preventing the battery voltage from falling below a level that would permanently damage the cells, while the power path itself is rated as short-circuit proof so accidental shorts on the 24 V rail cannot disable the rest of the controller.
Field wiring is straightforward because the pluggable UPS connector is a 4-pin male header that groups power, sensor, and battery leads in one keyed housing. Pins 3 -, 4 + carry the battery polarity, and pins 1, 2 accept the thermistor feed so charging current can be tapered when cell temperature rises. The design detail simplifies cabinet layout and ensures that maintenance personnel can replace battery packs quickly without disturbing adjacent wiring. By combining these connection features with the protective functions outlined earlier, B & R Automation delivers a module that keeps CNC motion systems energized long enough for controlled stops and data retention.
