This plug-in board acts as an uninterruptible power interface, maintaining DC support for CNC controllers so axis positions and process data are preserved during brief mains failures. By coupling a sealed battery through on-board electronics, the module bridges outages common in plant environments and helps prevent uncontrolled machine stops. It installs on the system backplane next to motion and I/O cards without requiring separate external cabling. This arrangement lets the control remain energized long enough to retain operating data and complete an orderly response when incoming power drops unexpectedly.

During normal operation, the module directs a typical 1 A charging current into the connected accumulator pack, a level that balances charge time with battery life. When the controller draws from the backup source, internal conversion stages account for a maximum 30 W power consumption at that same current, which helps determine the heat load inside the cabinet. The module expects a reserve battery with a rated capacity of 4.5 Ah, a value that affects the available bridge time under nominal load conditions. Field wiring is performed through a 4-Pin Male connector, which groups supply, sense, and temperature lines on a keyed plug to reduce the risk of polarity errors. For battery life, the circuit includes deep discharge protection, disconnecting the load before cell voltage reaches a damaging level.

In addition to voltage guarding, the logic monitors current surges, and integrated short-circuit protection isolates the battery if an external fault occurs to prevent conductor overheating. Thermal management is assisted by an onboard sensor loop that terminates on pins 1 and 2, allowing the control CPU to suspend charging if ambient limits are exceeded. System polarity is fixed, with output positive routed to positive pin 4 and return routed to negative pin 3, so the battery connection follows a clear and consistent wiring pattern. The card occupies the IF Option 1 slot, which reserves a backplane connection for battery and status signals without blocking nearby expansion positions.
