The 5AC901.HS01-00 is an add-on module produced by B&R Automation within the 5AC CNC Addon Modules series. Designed for slide-in mounting beside System 2003 units, it provides the computing layer that executes interpolation, tool-path preparation, and fieldbus communication for numerical control stations. By supplying extra processing capacity inside the automation rack, the module eliminates separate PCs and keeps motion logic inside the protected cabinet.

The internal electronics are arranged on 10 CPU boards, a dense stack that supports parallel execution of interpolation, PLC, and HMI tasks. Thermal energy created by these processors is guided to the housing through integrated heat pipes and dissipated along external cooling fins. Because the enclosure relies on passive cooling rather than forced air, no fans or filters require service, and airborne debris cannot enter the card cage. The conduction path remains effective under continuous duty because the copper tubes interface directly with the aluminum fins. The processor sockets can host CPUs from the Core i7 / i5 / i3 / Celeron family so performance can be scaled to the machine’s cycle time. Clock selections range from 1.1–2.7 GHz, allowing lower heat generation when only low-latency logic is required or higher frequency for complex spline calculations. Depending on how many motion groups run concurrently, CPUs with 1 / 2 / 4 cores can be installed to balance deterministic response and thread capacity. The housing ships with no fan kit, preserving the passive cooling concept, and fits into backplanes that provide 1 / 2 / 5 system unit slots for single-control or multi-module layouts.
