It functions as a buffered uninterruptible power supply that bridges short mains outages so CNC axes can decelerate safely and controller data remain intact in industrial cells. During brief supply interruptions, the buffered section keeps control electronics energized long enough for an orderly stop rather than an abrupt loss of power. Integrated into the DC rail, it provides temporary energy storage without altering the control topology, making it a straightforward reliability component within automated machining centers and robotic stations.
The module uses a lead-acid (VRLA) chemistry, meaning its electrolyte is immobilized and the risk of leakage during cabinet vibration is reduced. Two batteries are wired as 2 × 12 V in series, so the unit presents a regulated 24 V DC output that matches the logic and drive supply used by B&R controllers. With a rated capacity of 2.2 Ah, it can source roughly 2.2 amperes for one hour, which is enough to support embedded PCs and brake circuits during an orderly shutdown. Because the design is maintenance-free, it does not require water replenishment or scheduled electrolyte checks. The assembly is intended for continuous operation at elevations up to 3000 m, where lower air density can reduce convection cooling. For extended storage, the battery should receive a refresh charge every six months to help prevent sulfation, and the included NTC sensor can be used to verify temperature conditions before the module is returned to service.
