Product Description:

The 5AC801.DVRS-00 optical drive module is produced by B&R Automation for the 5AC CNC Addon Modules series. This unit installs in a controller rack and provides CD-ROM and DVD-ROM access so archived programs, updates, and diagnostic files can be loaded directly into the control system without a separate computer. Because the module is mounted in the rack, removable media can be accessed through the controller environment instead of through an external workstation. It supports optical media handling in installations where network transfer is limited or removable archives remain part of normal machine support.

In operation, the drive reads compact disc media at 24x speed, so a full 700 MB disc can be accessed quickly for NC file retrieval and reference data. For DVD media, it sustains an 8x rate, which supports larger archives that exceed CD capacity. The interface uses the SATA bus, and peak sequential throughput reaches 33.3 MB/s during sequential reads. Using SATA also keeps command handling and status reporting consistent with other storage devices used in the controller. A brushless spindle maintains target velocity at 5160 rpm ±1%, which helps keep data tracking stable during continuous access. The built-in laser is rated as Class 1 for use in standard electrical cabinets.

To smooth variations in data transfer, the drive incorporates a 2 MB buffer that stores forward sectors while the spindle corrects minor tracking offsets. This buffering reduces interruptions that can occur when disc rotation and head movement must adjust during a read cycle. The module has an overall depth of 150 mm, with a height of 172.5 mm and a width of 22 mm to fit dense rack layouts and adjacent module guides. At just 400 g, the unit adds little load to slide-in carriers and helps limit mechanical stress on the rack. The slim housing also leaves room for neighboring control modules in compact cabinet assemblies.
