Product Description:
B&R Automation supplies the 5AC801-HDDI-03 as a removable hard-disk module in the 5AC CNC Addon Modules series. Installed in a 5AC control rack, the unit provides non-volatile storage so that machining programs, axis parameter sets, and diagnostic logs remain available when power is cycled on the numerical controller. The module connects through the backplane, allowing the drive to be removed without re-routing field wiring and simplifying service on production equipment.
The drive’s average seek and rotational latency combine to an access time of 5.56 ms, so tool-change or contour data can be retrieved quickly during interpolation cycles. A buffer of 8 MB cache smooths burst traffic between the controller and the platters, while a sustained internal data rate of 1175 Mbit/s supports streaming of large part programs. Total capacity is 250 GB, with 512 bytes per sector and 488,397,168 logical sectors; this layout aligns with common file systems used by B&R operating kernels. The storage medium relies on a single read/write head that moves across one platter surface, minimizing alignment errors that could occur with multi-head assemblies. Data reaches the processor through a SATA host interface, and S.M.A.R.T. monitoring is enabled so the controller can flag predictive failure conditions before unplanned downtime.
For enclosure planning, the module measures 105 mm in depth, 98 mm in height, and 13 mm in width, so it occupies one slim slot beside axis cards. Spindle rotation is regulated at 5400 rpm ±0.2%, which balances vibration control with energy consumption in continuously running cells. The aluminum housing and magnetic assembly together weigh only 134 g, making the module light enough for quick tool-free removal while still protecting the internal mechanics from minor handling shocks.
