The 5A2005.02 floppy disk controller is produced by B & R Automation for integration in the 5A2 Floppy Disk Drives series. Within a control cabinet it functions as a removable storage interface that lets legacy automation nodes exchange program files through standard 3.5-inch media. By plugging into the ISA backplane of a PC-based industrial computer, the board bridges low-level drive signals with higher-level application software so that machine sequences can be loaded, logged, or updated without network access.
Electrically the board follows the ISA bus specification and occupies the full 16-bit data path, so it can address sector commands and status registers through a contiguous I/O map without wait-state penalties. Current demand on the slot lines is defined as +5 V 1 A for logic, with supplementary –5 V 200 mA, +12 V 250 mA, and –12 V 200 mA rails that drive the read/write amplifiers. It requires allocation of 2 slots; one holds the PCB while the second provides clearance for the front-panel connector. Bus arbitration is simplified because there is no master DMA support, so transfers rely on programmed I/O and interrupt routines implemented by the host CPU.
Mechanical integration is straightforward. The board uses a screw mount bracket rather than plastic clips, allowing secure fastening during vibration.
